The first thought that comes to our minds while moving is choosing a place to live. Being the millennials that we are, the first thing we do is to hit that search bar on Google.
Wait, were you taken aback from all those search results?

However, what if we tell you-you’re wrong? What if we tell you we already have a sifted list of qualities you could consider before choosing a paying guest accommodation (PG) to live?
Intrigued? Read on!
What if you’ve got an early morning class or a sudden work dinner? Or a bunch of your friends have decided to drop in, but your refrigerator is empty!
First things first, given the traffic in cities nowadays, make sure the PG is located close to your college or place of work to avoid extended travel times. In addition to this, proximity to hospitals/clinics, grocery stores, medical stores and metro station is an important line item in your PG selection checklist.
The proof is in the…PG.
Yes, we know the original phrase ends with the word ‘pudding’, but we think the replacement is apt in this case. Make sure that the exteriors and, more importantly, the interiors, match up to your liking and tastes. After all, this is going to be your home for an unknown, and you want to be able to come back to a place that you can call your home.
Look for the availability of facilities like Wi-Fi, power back-up, hot water, laundry which are a must in any accommodation choice. If you are the type who likes to stay out late, make sure you choose a PG with no curfew. Late night parties migh land you in no-mans land.
Check the security arrangements of the PG to ensure you are living in a safe environment. Owners of girl’s PGs are being extra cautious to ensure the safety of their residents. If you are on the look-out for one, ensure the property is equipped with CCTV cameras. Gated property with additional safety features is a bonus.
Food! – Fresh & Healthy
After all the trouble you took to move to a new city to study or work, was to earn a good living! Hence, food is at the crux of it all! Ensure you choose a PG which offers freshly cooked meal every day. If you are particular on the cuisine make sure the PG is flexible in terms of its food options.
PGs run by professionals are usually a good choice. Strangely, traditional PG owners always tend to have an issue with providing quality food. However, PG owners who consider food as an additional income provide good quality, home-like food.
Living in a PG is not all perfect, but like they say, ‘Home is where the heart is’, and you need to make sure that your PG is your second home, that warms your heart and comforts your soul.
